Poco X8s Specs: What the Certifications Actually Prove (and What They Don't)

The Poco X8s doesn't officially exist. The paper trail says otherwise.
Poco hasn't announced anything. No teaser video, no launch date, no press release. But a phone carrying the model number 2609CPC5FG has now been certified by Singapore's IMDA, appeared in Europe's EEC and IECEE databases, and run a public Geekbench benchmark. A leak site reading a GSMA database entry gave it the name "Poco X8s" — and that name has stuck. Here's what the evidence actually proves, what it only suggests, and whether anyone should wait for it.
What the certifications actually prove
Let's separate the paper trail from the speculation. Three independent records point to the same device:
- Singapore IMDA: model 2609CPC5FG, filed under the Poco brand with Xiaomi Electronics as the applicant, described as a 5G phone with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC.
- Europe's EEC and IECEE: the same model number cleared both, indicating a European Economic Area release is in the works.
- Geekbench: the same model number ran the benchmark with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (SM7750), 12GB of RAM, and Android 16. Scores: 972 single-core, 3,297 multi-core.
Certification databases don't care about marketing. A device doesn't show up on IMDA's list unless it's being prepared for sale somewhere. Four certification appearances — IMDA, EEC, IECEE, plus the earlier GSMA entry that the XimiTime report pulled the "X8s" name from — is not a rumor. It's a launch in progress.
The Geekbench scores deserve a caveat: 3,297 multi-core is well below the 9,000-plus scores flagships post, but this is a mid-range chip on what is presumably a pre-production unit. These numbers say "works as expected," not "weak." The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4's other phones — OPPO Reno 16, Vivo V80, Motorola Edge 70, Realme 16 Pro+, Nothing Phone (4a) Pro — cluster in the same range.
The chip is the story
The Geekbench listing identifies the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (SM7750) running one prime core at 2.8GHz, four performance cores at 2.4GHz, and three efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm announced this chip back in May 2025: TSMC 4nm, a claimed 27% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU than the 7 Gen 3, and a 65% faster Hexagon NPU that's good enough to run Stable Diffusion 1.5 on-device. It also brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, LPDDR5x memory, and UFS 4.0 storage to the mid-range.
This matters because of where it slots into Poco's lineup. The vanilla Poco X8 — launched in early September 2026 — runs the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, priced from Rs 26,999 in India with a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display at 120Hz, an 8,340mAh battery, and 67W charging. The X8 Pro carries the Dimensity 8500 Ultra. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 sits squarely between them on performance, and that gap in the family is exactly where the rumored "X8s" name fits. Not the base model, not the Pro — the middle option.
The launch map: where it's going, and where it isn't
The certifications also sketch the sales geography. Reports point to Europe, Turkey, Russia, and other global markets. India — Poco's biggest market by volume — is reportedly not on the list. In China, a parallel model number, M583CF, is expected to sell under Redmi branding instead of Poco.
Skipping India is the detail worth lingering on. Xiaomi's India pricing is famously aggressive — the vanilla X8 starts at Rs 26,999 — and Poco built its reputation there as the budget-flagship disruptor. A mid-range X8 variant bypassing India suggests either the pricing math doesn't work against the existing X8 and X8 Pro, or Xiaomi is rebalancing where the mid-range fight happens this cycle.
There's also a small piece of forensic evidence hiding in the model number. Xiaomi's "2609" prefix encodes a September 2026 target — meaning this device appears to be running behind its own schedule. The vanilla X8 and X8 Power shipped in early September as planned; the X8s missed that window and is only now surfacing in certification. That's consistent with a late-October or November announcement, not an imminent one.
What's still a rumor
Everything beyond the chip, RAM, OS, and market geography is unconfirmed. The biggest one: a 50MP main camera, with 0.6x, 1x, and 2.5x zoom steps appearing in the camera app. GSMArena's reporting is careful here — it's unclear whether the 2.5x step comes from a dedicated telephoto lens or just a crop of the main sensor. Given the X8s' middle-tier positioning, a cropped zoom is the likelier engineering answer, and nobody should count a telephoto until Poco says so.
Still unknown: display specs, battery capacity, charging speed, IP rating, and — most importantly for buyers — pricing and launch date. Poco itself has said nothing. That silence is normal; Poco tends to confirm a device only days before its event. But it means every "leak" should be read as probable, not certain.
And one more piece of honesty: the name itself is the weakest link in the chain. No certification database names the phone "Poco X8s." The name came from XimiTime's reading of a GSMA entry, and every outlet since has repeated it. It's almost certainly right — the positioning math checks out — but the one fact everyone repeats is the one nobody has officially confirmed.
Should you wait for it?
That depends on your market. If you're in India, there's no indication this phone is coming to you — the vanilla X8 and X8 Pro are your actual options. If you're in Europe, Turkey, or Russia and you're shopping the mid-range right now, the calculus is familiar: the X8s would land as the "balanced" pick — better chip than the X8, presumably lower price than the X8 Pro.
The practical move: don't pre-decide. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is a genuinely good mid-range chip — 27% CPU and 30% GPU gains over its predecessor, Wi-Fi 7, on-device AI worth having — but the phone's value will live or die on the camera, battery, and price, which are all still unknown. Wait for Poco's announcement, then compare the X8s against the vanilla X8 (likely cheaper by then) and the X8 Pro on a spec sheet with real prices. Leak stories tell you what to watch for. They don't tell you what to buy.
